How To Use Underwater and Polarizer Filters

HERO4, 3+, 3 Filters

  1. Clean with a soft tshirt to remove any dust during packing.
    •  (Tiny scratches will NOT affect video quality, Red/Magenta filters are spotted, this is part of the filter and will not affect quality)
  2. Fold back the side tabs. (Once folded, leave them that way, the Polarizer is fragile do not fold the tabs more than twice)
  3. Place the filter over the lens with the tabs up and down.
    • Polarizer Note: Filter is polarized horizontally. Depending on what your filming / trying to reduce glare on the tabs will either need to point up/down or left/right. Up/Down Polarizes like a pair of sunglasses. Hold it to your eye and look at objects you want to film, rotating it to see which is best. Typically for reducing glare on water, snow, and glass, having the tabs up/down works best.
  4. Raise the GoPro® into the housing making sure the filter goes in straight.
  5. Close the housing and enjoy!

HERO2® & HERO® Filters

  1. Clean with a soft tshirt to remove any dust during packing.
    •  (Tiny scratches will NOT affect video quality, Red/Magenta filters are spotted, this is part of the filter and will not affect quality)
  2. Fold back the tab slightly. (Polarizer is fragile do not fold the tab more than twice) If you don't need the tab to help place the filter in the housing, or you find it gets in the way, you can cut it off with scissors.
  3. Place the filter into the housing lens area with the tab pointing up.
    • Polarizer Note: Filter is polarized horizontally. Depending on what your filming / trying to reduce glare on the tab will need to point up or right. Up Polarizes like a pair of sunglasses. Hold it to your eye and look at objects you want to film, rotating it to see which is best. Typically for reducing glare on water, snow, and glass, having the tab up works best.
  4. Lower the HERO2®/HERO® into the housing and close.
  5. You will notice with the Red and Magenta Filters there will be warping and creases. This does not affect picture/video quality while underwater due to the focal point of the GoPro and the thinness of the filters. The Polarizer should stay warp free but a tiny amount may occur.
